Baştaş Cement, one of Turkey's first cement factories, has been operating since 1967 and has a total grinding capacity of 4.4 million tons of cement with two production lines. In the clinker cooling area of the second production line, a problem known as the "snowman" issue occurred in the fixed plate section. The snowman problem is characterized by clinker pieces stacking on top of each other, forming a pile resembling a snowman during the cooling process. This issue reduces cooling capacity and efficiency, causing disruptions in the production process. Additionally, it increases energy consumption, raises operational costs, and negatively impacts occupational health and safety risks.

To prevent the issue, Martin engineers installed 15 Hurricane Air Cannons and selected nozzles suitable for the structure of the clinker cooling area. To enhance the system's effectiveness, a timer was integrated to regulate the firing sequence and frequency of the bursts, allowing the system to operate automatically. This innovative approach supports optimum performance of the cooling process, preventing the accumulation of clinker, and improving overall production efficiency.

After the installation of the Martin Hurricane Air Cannon System, a significant improvement in the efficiency of the clinker cooling process was achieved.The effectiveness of the cooling process has been measured through increased overall efficiency, a 20% reduction in cooling time, improved energy efficiency along with reduced maintenance and operational costs, enhanced product quality due to more uniform temperature distribution, and a decrease in carbon emissions. Additionally, the activation of the system led to a measurable reduction in production losses. Approximately 80% of the snowman-related issues were resolved, and production losses were minimized.As a result, the Martin Hurricane Air Cannon System and engineering solutions have enhanced Baştaş Çimento's cooling efficiency and significantly reduced operating costs.
